These are the second set of pictures from my Tate Modern visit in London. The most interesting one of these is the polyester and stainless steel art installation. This is a construction of a staircase leading a figurative place such as heaven or hell. Its intriguing in a sense that it makes the audience think and puts them on the spot on what exactly is the purpose of staircase.

Here are the first set of pictures with my first visit ever to the Tate Modern in London. From many interesting art installations to photographs, the museum i felt had a wide arrange of different pieces each portraying their own message relating to a theme.

Here is the development stages of my “what she really means” poster series. Showing step by step how my poster designs slowly developed and changed over the design process.

stage 1: Was first to got the text and typography all correct. Choosing a suitable typeface and manually kerning and tracking the letters of the text.

stage 2: Was to choose a suitable colour pallete of for the series of posters, try to stick with an informal tone and keep it less uptight with soft pastel colours.

stage 3: Then I designed a logo for my poster series keeping it simple and to the point.

stage 4: A closer look at the logo that I designed for my posters. This will be on the the central bottom of all of them.

stage 5: Deciced to create my own patterned background using the female symbol. so keep it with the theme of these posters.

stage 6: After creating a unique background I realised that the background was clashing with the text. This was a major issue as the main part of the design of the posters was the text. The text to efficiently put the message of each poster across quickly. So my solution was to create a blockout using the same colour as my background. I did the same with the logo as well to make the overall design more intergrated.

stage 7: The last thing that I did was creating an unique illustration for each one of these posters. With the illustration being related to the message of the poster and also help in the overall effort to convey the message of the poster quickly and easily to the viewer.

This gave me my intial footing for my first idea for my translation project. With what sort of words women use and the actual hidden meaning of them. I thought this was interesting and it would be a good concept to tie it it with my translation project.

Microsoft Word

Quick little trick if you have microsoft word 2003. Typing in =rand(1,5) then hitting enter will generate text for you instantly. Made up of the sentence “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” This can be any number combination you want. With the number corresponding with the (paragraphs, sentences).

On the 2007 version the same thing will generate text from the help section, and also if you replace the rand with lorem then it will generate random text.

Lastly on 2007 version or newer if you want to get the old text to generate then just use =rand.old(,)

Second set of ten posters for my translation project.

Here are the first ten posters that I made for the project of translation. The theme here was to translate the words of women to men in a manner that could be understood by both parties. I wanted the designs to be simple and to the point. As the message was the key focus to put across with the help a simple illustration. The colours used have been influenced from the kawaii style of using soft light tones. This was to create a sense of informailty make the subject more open to people. Help put the message across in a light hearted way.

More I look at these the more they grow on to me, looking at them just makes you happy to eat any sort of foods. The soft and light tone colours used and even adding in the subjects of animals to the mix just makes it ever more adorable. Even if you feel eating animals whole is wrong. This will be the sort of feeling I want to evoke from my work.

The style of kawaii has been interesting to look at to get inspiration for my colour use and illustrations. The word “kawaii” is the japanese word for “cute” and is a style in itself. The soft pastel colour tones used appeal to me alot and also the emotions it portrays. I will be incorporating things I have gathered here in my own work for this translation project.

After reserching on the project theme, one of my ideas to base this projects on, is the things women say to men and then what they really mean. Women have always been a problem in commnication to men. With the things they say to us then what they really mean in the head. I would like to translate what women say to men and them show what they actually mean in a formative manner.
